Rome 390 Boss black

I really really wanted to like these bindings, and I still somewhat do. But first day out I lost the foot bed off the lift. I wish they still had the set screw construction like they did in the past. I’ve owned the same 2 pairs of Rome 390s since the late 2000s, and I’ve been able to rebuild them with ankle straps from the Rome crew and use them still to this day. The new models are much lighter weight, but I’m not sure if the construction will last 10+ years like previous models. Time will tell.

Boss bindings, living up to their name

The ankle strap is the highlight of these bindings for me. It does an excellent job accommodating your boot. It maintains great responsiveness while preserving comfort. I liken it to being locked into your binding with pillows. I definitely like the tech going into those. This applies to the toe strap as well, even under low tension it does a good job. My boot feels pretty solid in these.

The ratchets and straps feel sturdy, but the baseplate steals the show here. Feels quite solid! The mounting puck bolt arrangement can accommodate a lot of different configurations and the degrees lock in nicely. I run +12;-12.

As far as usage goes, I use a damp/stiff board. Butters with these feel more precise, and riding steeps/at speed feels quite stable.

Top Tier bindings

I've ridden Union, Burton, Jones, Now, and K2 bindings and Rome bindings are hands down the best, especially with the new strap design this year. Personally, I think the Boss is the sweet spot where people get all the features they need and none of the features they don't. I also have the katanas, but I might like the boss more

Pretty Stoked

Only issue is the L/XL only just fits my US 13 Boots. Other than that they are pretty great! Manual for setup and adjustments would be a great addition.
